Fertilization

Early the morning after retrieval, all of the eggs that have been inseminated are checked for fertilization. As seen in the picture on the left, fertilization is evidenced by two pronuclei (which will eventually form the nucleus) found in the center of the egg. The presence of three or more pronuclei signifies abnormal fertilization.

After fertilization the embryos are placed back into the incubator for growth and are assessed daily by our embryologists.
